Indian music is 3 inches wide and about a few hundred years deep. Not much to it if you are looking for geners, but a life time of stuff available to you if you looking for depth.
www.musicindiaonline.com is a good place to sample. Dont take their "top10" or any other categorization seriously.

I did see one live concerts, otherwise it was 19 hour work days. :-(. I saw Dhruv Ghanekar as part of a french funk group. he is ok, bt not good enough to be called "one of India's best axemen". Enjoyed the show though.

Please post (for the uninitiated) a few links describing the history of music in India. Also, comment on the role of iTunes (or similar) on flattening the world of music. Could a breakout band from India explode onto the world scene? If no, why not?

Did you see any live performances on your trip? If no, why not?!?

Subbu-

One thought that comes to mind--you should post an India 101 re: economics, wealth, etc. For the uninitiated, India is "known" for the caste system, tons of people, enormously packed trains, and very hot weather (sorry, don't mean to stereotype).

The question that stands out in my mind--there must be a very wealthy segment of India society. Further, there must be an emerging segment of new wealth. Are these "segments" of the population as extreme as the US? Do wealth disparities foreshadow a future problem for India?

Always best to remember during pendant light season that there are unfortunate people out there who have suffered through 2+ years of night classes at MATC studying electricity. These people, some of whom nearly lost their homes to electrical fires, can quickly, efficiently, effortlessly, and most of all, SAFELY install pendandt lights (and all other electrical items) for those who have not been to MATC.

You've overlooked one other important point--unless you are the household decision maker, which the casual reader of this post must clearly assume you are NOT, the choice of pendant fixture seems hardly within your realm of discussion. We know that because the pendants are not in place is your fault; we also konw that whatever pendants that are eventually installed will have imperfections--again your fault. Despite everything being your fault, that doesn't change the fact that whatever pendant YOU choose will be the wrong pendant.

Happy shopping!
